New Jerusalem – Welcome Home!

June 22, 2008 – 5:11 am

While in the car the other day, I heard someone on the radio use the phrase, “Just another day in paradise!”  I am not even sure in what context the man was using the phrase.  However, it brought a picture to my mind.  “Paradise, heaven on earth,” will be our eternal home.  There was such a warm feeling that enveloped me.  Was this warm feeling of peace coming from my spirit recognizing it’s home?  I can only guess, I just know it felt very relaxing and peaceful.

What do we know about God’s Heaven?  It is where God dwells and communicates with His children here on earth through His Spirit.  It is a place where God and all heavenly creatures reside.  It was God who created and gave “Heaven” it’s name (Genesis 1:8Genesis 1:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. And the evening...: Heb. And the evening was, and the morning was etc.

).  Remember, in the Garden of Eden, God walked and talked with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:80Genesis 3:80
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

).  The prophet Ezekiel called Eden the garden of God in Ezekiel 28:13Ezekiel 28:13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. sardius: or, ruby beryl: or, chrysolite emerald: or, chrysoprase

.  As best as I can determine, once Adam and Eve committed this world’s first sin, God cast them out of Eden and returned to heaven (Genesis 6:11Genesis 6:11
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

).  Sin now existed on earth and God’s perfection would not allow Him to dwell in the presence of sin.

So God’s presence has never returned to earth since Eden.  In Isaiah 65:17-19Isaiah 65:17-19
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. come...: Heb. come upon the heart 18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

, God previews the new heaven and earth – new Jerusalem.  God speaks of earth, at this point, as His “Footstool.”  The timing of His and Jesus’ return at the beginning or end of the “Thousand Years,” is interpreted differently by different Bible scholars.  God often does not share all the details of His Plans before they occur.  It is not my place to “add” or remove words from His Prophesy (Revelation 22:18-19Revelation 22:18-19
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. out of the book...: or, from the tree of life

).

John’s writing in the Book of Revelation gives some detail of what was shared with him of the future.  He speaks of the old earth going away.  It may be what John was referring to when he gave the description of the destruction of Babylon (Revelation 14:8Revelation 14:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

WP-Bible plugin
).  Then John speaks of the of the “Thousand Years” (Revelation 20:1-6Revelation 20:1-6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

20 1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

).

Otherwise known as the Millennium, this is when Christ returns to earth and Satan, his anti-christ, their demons and those judged “dead” to Christ are cast into the abyss for the duration of the thousand years.  God has not yet returned to the new earth.  Those before Christ’s first time on earth that had previously died in Christ, they will assist The Lord of Lords and King of Kings in the ruling during these one thousand years (Revelation 20:2-6Revelation 20:2-6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

Hang with me here, because we’re getting close to the description of what our “new” home is going to look like and be like!

Now a thousand years have past and Satan is released back onto the earth.  John tells us it is but for a “short time” (Revelation 20:7-10Revelation 20:7-10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

WP-Bible plugin
).  At the end of Satan’s last attempt to over-throw Jesus, he and all of his bad cohorts are cast into the Lake of Fire.  It is at this time, those of us who were here on earth during and after Christ’s first appearance, as well as, when Christ had His Second Coming, face our Judgement.  Whoever is not listed in The Lamb’s (Christ’s) Book of Life will find themselves dying the second eternal death – they will join Satan in The Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:11-15Revelation 20:11-15
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. hell: or, the grave 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Now the “New Earth and the New Jerusalem” arrives.  It is like a marriage of God’s people (the Bride) being given to their Savior “The Lamb (Christ).”  Now this Celebration is in front of God Almighty (Revelation 21:1-22Revelation 21:1-22
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

21 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. all things: or, these things 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. 9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. 17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Okay, what is New Jerusalem like?  Well, we are told in Hebrews the “architect and builder is God” (Hebrews 11:10Hebrews 11:10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

).  “It is the city of the Living God, the heavenly Jerusalem” (Hebrews 12:22Hebrews 12:22
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

The following description is taken from Revelation, Chapter 21 and 22.  God made it into the shape of a square.  New Jerusalem is 1400 miles long by 1400 miles wide or 1,960,000 square miles.  The walls are about 200 feet wide.  The walls are encrusted with every type of jewel on the new Earth and they shine with the brilliance of God (Revelation 21:11Revelation 21:11
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

WP-Bible plugin
).  There are twelve gates and there is an angel at each gate.  Three gates are on the north face of the City and three on each of the other three walls.  The walls are built on twelve different foundations.  Each decorated with a different jewel.  The number of gates represent the number of Tribes of Israel.  All twelve gates are each made of a single pearl.  The structures of the City are made of  gold as pure as glass.

There is a single great street in the City.  It, too is made of the purest goal.  Down the middle of this great street flows the River of the Water of Life.  It is as clear as crystal and flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Christ).  Growing on each side of the River of Life are the Trees of Life.  They bear twelve crops of fruit – one for every month.  The leaves of these trees are for the healing of nations.  Think of all the different nations that will be living inside this wonderful place.

The old earth’s curse will be no more.  There will be no need for sun nor moon.  God and Jesus’ radiance will light the city.  God’s face will be visible to His servants and they shall have His Name on their foreheads.  No lamp or light will ever be needed.

The beauty, I am sure, cannot be described by words alone.  It will be more than just visual beauty.  There will be a happiness and peace that truly “passeth all understanding!” (Philippians 4:12Philippians 4:12
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

). There will be no old people living out their days and babies will be babies but a few days (Isaiah 65:20Isaiah 65:20
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

).  Everyone will be a mature Christian and in their prime.  There will be no pain, no mourning, no tears and no death (Revelation 21:4Revelation 21:4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

In Isaiah 65:21-22Isaiah 65:21-22
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. shall long...: Heb. shall make them continue long, or, shall wear out

WP-Bible plugin
, the Blessed of God will thrive in their work and dwell in their own houses and “…enjoy the works of their hands.”  In the old world, children were abused and killed.  In the new World “They will not…bear children doomed to misfortune, for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them” (Isaiah 65:23Isaiah 65:23
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Think about this: “Before they (you and me along with the other Blessed) call I will answer, while they are still speaking I will hear (Isaiah 65:24Isaiah 65:24

English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

So, do you think, just from this brief description that you and I can be happy in our eternal home?  I, without reservation, say, “I can and will!”  Anyplace I can serve my God and Savior, I hunger to spend eternity there!  I hope you feel the same way!

I just know that if God can still love an old reprobate like me – I’ll gladly follow Him anywhere!

I pray your week ahead is Blessed, safe, happy and IN THE SPIRIT!!!  Until next week, take care of yourself, those you love and those that God may send to you so that in your actions and words you may reflect His Glory and Love!

In Christ’s Love,
