The Route To Salvation – Is There More Than One Way?

July 6, 2008 – 6:46 pm

This edition of the BlessedBooks.com Blog is, in part, taken from Chapter 5 of “Why God?”.

The answer to the title of this Blog is in two parts.  The first is addressed to how we leave this world.  The second part is to the final path to Salvation.

I was taught that there was ONLY one way to Heaven and that was through Jesus Christ our Lord.  This may or may not of been what you were taught.  Essentially, one must accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and repent unto Jesus all of our sins – BEFORE we leave this life.  Sound a lot like you were taught?

Well, as I’ve researched for “Why God?” I have learned that this belief is not entirely accurate.  In the final Judgement Day we will meet our Lord and He will look in The Book of Life for our name.  If it is there, we will have the opportunity to “answer” for our sins and Jesus will judge each one of us as to our worthiness to join Him in our everlasting Salvation in Heaven.

But wait, the instruction I got in Sunday School and Church was that I had to accept my Lord BEFORE I die from this world.  Well, that is one way to join our Lord in Eternal Heaven, but there are others.

A wife or husband can intercede for an “unsaved” spouse (1 Corinthians 7:13-141 Corinthians 7:13-14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

).  The children of believers can be saved through the believers faith and following God’s Covenant and Laws (Psalms 103:17-18Psalms 103:17-18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

There are other scriptures that imply the Salvation of one who leaves this earth without having accepted Jesus as their Savior may be available to alternatives.  However you read it, Jesus is the last and only Decision Maker for Eternal Salvation.  However, this privilege may extend to Judgement Day after one’s soul leaves the earthly life.

Only one situation can prevent any Salvation at all when one leaves this life.  That is the “Unpardonable Sin” (Matthew 12:31Matthew 12:31
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

).  We’ve spoken of this before.  It is when our “self” puts itself superior to our spirit.  The “self” will never concede that the Holy Spirit of God is the one and only Being that must fill the soul of the sinner for Salvation to ever take place.

Am I suggesting that we should all enlist our spouse’s to pray for our Salvation or depend on our parents to be believers’ to the point that we receive our Salvation through the strength of their faith?  No, of course not!  In the final analysis (Judgement Day in front of Jesus) it’s whether our name is in The Book of Life and Jesus will recognize us and we will recognize Him as our Eternal Savior!

The reason for this Blog is that we must realize our Savior (The Good Shepherd) will go back for even one who has lost their way “Home” (Luke 15:4Luke 15:4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

).  He gave up His Life, would He do any less for a truly “lost” soul?

I hope you had a great and safe 4th!  May your week to come Bless you and you pass those Blessings on to others!

In Christ’s Love,

edd
