May God Forgive Me for texting "OMG"!

Deuteronomy 5:11Deuteronomy 5:11
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

says “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord your God will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.”

How often do you hear someone say “Oh God…(this or that following) in the media, movies, written media, television, etc…or maybe a friend or even yourself?  We hear, read or have used God’s Name for many reasons other than the one and single reason the Bible, God’s Holy Word, tells us to use it for…personal communication between Him and us!

In personally praying to Him we are praising Him.  By giving honest and sincere prayer to Him shows we “believe” in His Glory as The Supreme Diety and He is, in fact, Who He says He Is.

To use His Name, God, The Name of Jesus Christ, and/or The Name Of The Holy Spirit of God without it being a prayer by you or you and others jointly praying to Them is, simply, blasphemous and taking Their Names “in vain.”  This breaks one of God’s Commandments each and every time it occurs.

Well, do we think it matters to Him, really?  I mean, after all, it happens all the time, all around us daily!  Yes, it does – but, so does all sin in this world.  It happens all around us each and every day, but it is still SIN!  Taking God’s Name “in vain” is still breaking one of His Ten Laws He Asks us to live by and NOT break!

In an earlier post on this site, I mentioned a time in Salisbury, N.C. in a small “order at the window” type restaurant.  My wife, our daughter and I were standing in the line to order our lunch.  An older woman was standing directly in front of me and ahead of her were two men.  The two men were speaking loud enough for those around them to clearly hear their conversation.  Given the profanity they were using, I should have stepped around the lady and asked them to “Please watch their language.”  I stood in that moment of hesitation we face so often.  That moment of hesitation of stepping out of the crowd to “do the right thing.”

However, the older woman ahead of me didn’t wait.  She tapped the shoulder of the man nearest to her in the line and said, ” Sir, God’s last name is not damn!”  Both men immediately got a sheepish look on their faces and quickly apologized to the lady.  Nothing more was said by either of them until they got to the front of the line and placed their order, picked up their food and then left.

It is easy enough to excuse ourselves by saying, “Well, everyone does it, so what’s the big deal?”  Well, the “big deal” is that we are allowing our “self” to follow the way of the world and it’s master, Satan (John 14:30John 14:30
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

and Ephesians 2:2Ephesians 2:2

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

), who, by the way, loves to take God’s Name “in vain.”  In following the way of the “world,” we are NOT following The Way of our Lord!

Well, we might ask, “We believe there is a God and we believe that Jesus is the “Son of that God,” so, ultimately, we’ll still get into Heaven, right?”  I can’t speak for God Almighty, but I can say that, in Scripture, we are told the following: to assure our Salvation into Eternal Heaven we must receive Jesus Christ, The Son of The Living God, as our Savior (2 Timothy 2:102 Timothy 2:10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

) thus having “sanctification of the Spirit”(1 Peter 1:21 Peter 1:2
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

) and have redemption for our sins (1 Colossians 1:14Colossians 1:14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

).

As we have talked before regarding the one sin that “…will not be forgiven him” (Luke 12:10Luke 12:10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

and Matthew 12:31-32Matthew 12:31-32
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

) is termed the “blasphemy” of The Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29Mark 3:29
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

).  The Scriptures are not precisely clear on what blasphemy of The Holy Spirit means.

We do know that there is a little Piece of The Holy Spirit breathed into each baby at birth (Genesis 2:7Genesis 2:7
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. of the dust...: Heb. dust of the ground

).  Some people choose to satisfy their own self-interest rather than listen and willingly obey that little bit of God’s Holy Spirit.  It is believed by many, myself included, that the continued denial to listen and obey this little Piece of God’s Spirit will bring The Holy Spirit to a permanent and Eternal decision about these types of people.  When, sadly, this occurs, The Holy Spirit Removes this small bit of Himself from these individuals.  At this moment, this person is Eternally damned to Hell with no reprieve!

So, just having a “belief” of a god or not and not deciding within one’s spirit whether he or she will or will not seek The Lord Jesus Christ as “The Way” (John 14:6John 14:6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

WP-Bible plugin
) is left up to each of us.  Then God leaves it up to His Holy Spirit to Decide when and if this unforgivable sin of  blasphemy has occurred within any of us.  We will not be aware of when The Holy Spirit Makes this Decision, and thus, removes It’s own Piece of Spirit from us.  If we have blasphemed The Holy Spirit to this degree, we won’t even miss it when its removed – but we SURELY will on Judgment Day!!!

A final thought about taking God’s Name in vain.  Does other similar, but not the actual profane words, count as taking God’s Name in vain?  Word’s like “oh gosh!”, “gosh darn”, and, “by gosh,” used in place of the obvious words that would break God’s Commandment be okay?  “A rose by any other name is still a rose.”  You ask YOUR little piece of God’s Holy Spirit what He Thinks about it (Romans 11:15Romans 11:15
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

WP-Bible plugin
)!

This life is not easy and God never Said it would be.  In fact, He said just the opposite (John 16:33John 16:33
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

).

May God continue to Bless us all with the Great Blessing of His Holy Spirit and The Eternal redeeming Love of Jesus Christ!!! Amen, Amen and Amen to all my brothers and sisters in Christ!!!
